Dall'uscita del WA-87 nel 2016 Warm Audio ha acquisito ancora maggiore esperienza, esperienza che ha portato l'azienda a verificare se era possibile migliorare la qualità del WA-87 in maniera sostanziale senza variarne il costo: il risultato è il WA-87 R2 (Revision 2). Il WA-87 si basa su un classico circuito anni '60 per quello che è universalmente riconosciuto come uno dei più validi microfoni da studio mai progettati. Warm Audio con il WA-87 ha impiegato tantissime risorse nel cercare di avvicinarsi il più possibile al suono della versione vintage. Così il WA-87 R2 utilizza componenti di altissima qualità come un transistor NOS Fairchild e condensatori WIMA in polistirene ad ampia larghezza di banda. Il WA-87 R2 utilizza un trasformatore in uscita custom proprio come l’unità originale, con la nuova versione che fornisce un livello di uscita più alto e una risposta in frequenza migliorata. Warm Audio ha utilizzato la stessa capsula del WA-87, progettata sulle stesse specifiche dell'unità vintage. Il risultato è una replica sonora accurata del microfono da studio più popolare della storia della registrazione sonora!
